Hafez Abu Seada
Hafez Al Sayed Seada’s established the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) in 1985 to investigate and report on human rights violations in his country. Today he serves as its Chairman. In a country where justice and human rights can be set aside by military decrees, where torture is routinely used by security agents and press who waver from the official party line are commonly shut down, EOHR stands strong for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, with a national membership of 2,300 and has 17 provincial branches located throughout Egypt. The organization has launched campaigns against torture, female genital mutilation, inhumane prison conditions, religious persecution and other violations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Today EOHR is Egypt’s foremost human rights organization.
