Jimmy Carter, President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts at Camp David, which brought peace between Israel and Egypt. He has been credited by some with bringing the only meaningful peace to the Middle East.

IN 1982 he founded the Carter Center in Atlanta, GA, which is committed to advancing human rights and alleviating unnecessary human suffering. He continues to work for a breakthrough in the Israel-Palestine conflict and is a tireless advocate for negotiated settlement by direct talks.

Here he talks with Mary Wald about his aspirations for the Middle East.
