In October, 2003 Michael Douglas attended the World Awards in Hamburg, Germany with President Mikhail Gorbachev. As Michael has been intensely involved in nuclear issues for decades, we were excited about arranging an introduction for him. We brought nuclear scientists Joseph Rotblat to Hamburg to spend an afternoon with Michael.

Doctor Rotblat, or Professor Rotblat as he preferred to be called, was one of the world's first nuclear scientists, beginning his career in 1937. A member of the Manhattan Project, working on the first atomic bomb, he resigned from the project and spent the next 50 years working for nuclear disarmament. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995.

We particularly treasure this footage as Professor Rotblat, a good friend of TheCommunity.com, passed away in 2005. We are excited about sharing it with you as part of the "What's so hard about Peace?" series. In the meantime, please enjoy a short clip.
